Jackie Corley Reading

Earlier tonight I went to Modern Formations to see Jessica Fenlon, Jackie Corley, and Lottery Puffs. It was the final installment of the year of The New Yinzer Presents... series. Jessica's poems were good. She's got a book coming out in '09 via Six Gallery Press, a Pittsburgh small press. Jackie's reading was quite enjoyable. She read two stories--"Blood in Jersey" and the title story--from her collection The Suburban Swindle (So New Publishing, 2008). I highly recommend it. Lottery Puffs are of the ambient/drone persuasion, and played a loud, instense set.

On the other end of the quality spectrum (read: bad) is Tay Zonday (of "Chocolate Rain" fame) reading the title story from Tim O'Brien's "The Things They Carried." I like the story, but Zonday's reading is atrocious. Behold:

thanks for coming, jason.

it was really great to meet you in a non-electronic venue.

you reminded me a lot of my old buds from high school (that's a good thing)

You're welcome, Jackie.

I had a lot of fun. It's too bad that you weren't able to hang out after the reading, but it sounds like it was a long day for you.

Hope the trip back to Jersey went well.
